Let's Fix The Dallas Cowboys

So I have just become the GM of the Dallas Cowboys. What now? First I break this team into thirds. 1). The Core (top 15 players), 2) Still being evaluated(23 players) and 3) Players who need to go (15 players left).

So who is the core of this team? Here are the 15 best players in order on this team.

1. Demarcus Ware
The heart and soul of the defense.

2. Sean Lee
Up and coming player who will be a star in this league.

3. Jason Witten
Remains one of the 3-5 best tight ends in the league.

4. Demarco Murray
May be a little early but signs all point to Murray hanging around awhile.

5. Tony Romo
I know many aren't sold, but, man, you can do so much worse at QB.

6. Miles Austin
Still the best receiver on this team when healthy.

7. Laurent Robinson
One year, but a very good year, needs to be resigned to at least another 3 years.

8. Dez Bryant
Off-field issues will go away as he matures; dude is a beast on-field.

9. Tyron Smith
As a rookie, best OL Cowboys have; should be here for at least a decade.

10. Anthony Spncer
Probably most controversial pick on this list; 2nd in sacks, 4th in tackles

11. Jay Ratliff
Can get lost sometime in the mix, but when good, can be very good.

12. John Phillips
Good backup to Witten; shows flashes of brilliance when he gets on the field

13. Victor Butler
Has shown that he has potential to be game-changer.

14. Stephen McGee
As a backup, i have nothing to complain about, but will never start in the NFL.

15. Matt McBriar
Let's just lock him up, if foot heals, and not worry about punter for next few years.

These 15 are part of the solution. After that we now need to decide who is part of the problem on this team. Here are the 15 worst players which need to be moved at some point, via either trade or by being released.

1. Terence Newman
It's been said all week since Giants game. His career is done in Dallas.

2. Alan Ball
His bad play simply outweighs any good that he has shown.

3. Keith Brooking
Age has caught up to him. Great career, but we can do better here.

4. Bradie James
Has never been great in pass coverage; kinda surprised he's lasted this long.

5. Marcus Spears
Former 1st round pick, never lived up to expectations.

6. Martellus Bennett
Always seemed nonchalant about playing football; simply refuses to put work in.

7. Abram Elam
Some believe he was best of 4 starting DBs; maybe, but not good enough.

8. Mike Jenkins
Inconsistency is frustrating; health issues are a concern as well.

9. Gerald Sensabaugh
No way should he have been extended.

10. Orlando Scandrick
Do you see starting DB in the league? I don't. Again, should not have been extended.

11. Phil Costa
Why are we still having issues with snapping the ball 10 weeks into the season?

12. Kyle Kosier
Never been blown away by his play; simply average, we need more.

13. David Buehler
This roster spot can be used for something more than a kickoff-only kicker.

14. Frank Walker
Simply a victim of being member of the weakest position on this team

15. Kenyon Coleman
Just like Spears, only one sack in 2011. We need more from the DE position.

Here are the grades for 2011 for each position on this team

QB - A
You can hate Romo if you want but the numbers simply don't lie. He remains a top-ten second-tier QB in the NFL. And even with McGee, has shown to be a legit backup.

RB - C
For some reason, the running game was pretty good with Murray, but seems to falter with Jones a the featured back. Is this a line problem or a Jones problem? 2012 may give us the answer we need to this question.

WR - B
Austin took a slight step back, primarily due to injury. Bryant is a future start but must learn to play for four quarters. Ro+binson is the steal here. Resign him for 2012 and we may have the best 3-receiver set in the game.

TE - B
Bennett stopped this from being an A. His lackadaisical style of play towrad the game is not what we need from a second-string TE.

OL - C
This group has received a lot of criticism since the season-ending Giants game. I believe only half is warranted. When Murray was the back, they looked pretty good. With Felix, not so much. But taking into account Romo's numbers, a bad OL would not allow for such a great performance out of their QB. Certainly there is room for improvement out of Free, Costa and Kosier.

DL - D
I simply don't buy this idea that 3-4 DL's are given a pass on being productive simply because the OLB are supposed to make all of the plays. Other 3-4 defensive teams seem to get major production out of there. If no production is expected from Cowboy DL, there is no wonder why this team can't seem to get pressure on QB's and, in turn, can't cover receivers.

LB - B
The best position defensively. Ware continues his march to Canton. Spencer is solid, but not great. Too many I think make mistake comparing Spencer to Ware and he is not as good - just solid. Lee has become the #1 tackler on this team. Legit LB in both the pass and the run. Also tied for lead in interceptions.

DB - D
only giving a D because some of the ineptness in pass defense has gotta go to the pass rush as well. Could have easily been an F. Be it DB or DL, either needs to be addressed in the first round of the draft. I would also like to see 2 new faces starting in the defensive backfield in 2012.

Review: X-Men:First Class (2011)

When we heard that the fourth X-Men installment was being released, I'm sure there was a wide range of expectations that immediately took shape. Some probably felt that "X-Men: The Last Stand" should have completed the story and summed all we needed to know about these mutants (not to mention the solo Wolverine film) and this will be a weak attempt and last ditch effort to cash in on the brand. Others probably saw this as further development of the franchise's core characters packaged as a prequel after really enjoying the earlier movies. I happened to have been in the former camp. After this experience, I could not have been more wrong. Not only do I consider First Class the best of the franchise, it's so far is the best film I've seen this year. Set in the 1960s, it gives us a well-crafted back story on how the X-men became who they are. I found the third act as, quite possibly, the best climax in superhero film history. First Class is first-class filmmaking, to say the least. Rating: ****

As the last true band standing in R&B, we have become accustomed to Mint Condition bringing us the funk. Not really Parliament/Funkdadelic funk,but funk, nonetheless. I must admit that although I consider myself a Mint Condition fan as much as the next guy, I never have extremely high expectations for each release from the group. Just as on their latest effort,7, there will be a solid ballad or two, some good mid- to uptempo funk numbers to bob your head to and one heavy rock,guitar-laden ditty near the end. Everything else kinda falls somewhere in between. The problem has been with Mint Condition is that they are very good at what they do -but not great. Outside of maybe 1996's Definition Of A Band, there really hasn't been a bona fide, breakout smash album from the group. But, I guess, simply being very good is a nice problem to have. Steven Levy's new book, In The Plex: How Google Thinks, Works, and Shapes Our Lives, has some interesting insights regarding the relationship between Steve Jobs and Google throughout the years. Perhaps most interesting is the fact that when Sergey Brin and Larry Page were looking around for a new CEO their first choice was Jobs.

Jobs turned them down, but saw enough in Google to see that it could be a success; he offered to mentor the two founders, going so far as to provide them with access to his closest advisers. After Jobs declined the Google CEO position, Brin and Page chose Eric Schmidt as CEO and Schmidt also later joined Apple's board of directors. That's when things quickly took a turn for the worse.

As Levy states in the book, Jobs was 'furious' when he visited Google's Mountain View headquarters and saw that the Android OS sported iOS features like pinch to zoom, among others. Shortly after that visit, Jobs told an Apple town hall meeting what he really thought of Google: 'We did not enter the search business. They entered the phone business. Make no mistake: they want to kill the iPhone. We won't let them [...] This don't be evil mantra? It's bullshit.'

The book also states that after Jobs found out about Android's similarities to iOS, he felt betrayed enough to somehow keep the development of the iPad hidden from Eric Schmidt while he was still a board member of Apple.

Let's be honest. Green Hornet is, at best, a 2nd or 3rd tier superhero - if you wanna call him that. So enthusiasm walking through the theater doors to the big-screen treatment of The Green Hornet should be curbed a bit. The film is a simple story of a rich, young party animal whose father dies and leaves him the family business. Finding himself with more responsibility, our hero decides to clean up his act and fly the straight and narrow. Oh yeah, and while he's at it, he'll also fight a little crime with his sidekick driver, Kato. Many would think that Seth Rogan's act would be played out after multiple roles of playing the funny and lovable loser. But after this feature, I say there is still a place in this movie world for guys like him and Will Ferrell. I laughed a few times more than I thought I would in this one. All in all, Hornet receives a passing grade given expectations. Rating *** 1/2 stars.

Top 10 Coaches The Cowboys should hire next

1. Bill Cowher

Everyone's favorite pick for next Cowboys head coach. Has the best combination of demeanor, personality and resume of all on this list. The negative? He was in Pittsburgh for 14 years before winning a Super Bowl. Would Jerry Jones and fans be that patient?

2. Brian Billick

Has a super Bowl under his belt and a winning record to boot. Depending on what he expects from working under Jones, I think this team would flourish under his care.

3. Jon Gruden

Gruden has won one Super Bowl, but many would say that it was a team that Tony Dungy put together. I've never bought that argument (Switzer wins with Jimmy Johnson's "team"). Each year is different. There is very little carryover from one team to the next, even if personnel is nearly the same. Gruden has the best personality to coach a team like this. He is hard-nosed and has that "take-no-stuff" demeanor that these 53 need.

4. Marty Schottenheimer

Although he has been out the game for a while, his resume deserves respect from players. He has a great track record of turning losing franchises around which this team definitely needs.

5. Bob Stoops

People love this guy for winning one college championship at his present position as head coach for the Oklahoma Sooners. So do I, but there are question marks with him winning big games. But by and large, this guy is a winner and players love to go to war for him. A solid, even tempered coach, he has the perfect balance of disciplinarian and player's coach.

6. Mike Zimmer

Zimmer coached the Cowboys' defense for 7 years and made a name for himself. Now as defensive coordinator for the Bengals, his name is popping up again for possible head coaching vacancies. Dallas would be a perfect fit for him.

7. Butch Davis

Presently coaching at North Carolina, Butch Davis has a history with the Cowboys as def coord under Jimmy Johnson. So at least he knows what working with Jerry jones would be like. As a Head Coach, his record is not his strength - 20 wins and 20 losses.

8. Jason Garrett

Verdict is still out on Garrett as a head coach. As an offensive coordinator, he has done a fair job. But of course, head coach should have a different set of skills. And the real question is will the players respect and respond to him given he would a carryover from the Wade Phillips era.

9. Jerry Jones

No, I am not joking. By and large, the NFL head coach does not have to be an X's and O's guy. He needs to be a manager of men and the coach's coach. Jerry would be a great motivator, but as a disciplinarian, he might be suspect.

10. Mike Singletary

Of course, he has to get fired first from the 49ers, but he has the perfect temperament that this team needs to succeed. Let us not worry too much about his present record with the 49ers. They have the exact opposite problem that the Cowboys have - weak talent but extremely disciplined.

Let me reiterate what this poll is. This poll represents what I think should be the 12 teams which should make up a true playoff system vying for a true Division I-A national Championship. It is made up of the 11 conference leaders and one at-large team.

1. Auburn
Should roll easily until Alabama showdown to end season.

2. Nebraska
Their running game is nothing to sneeze at; they deserve this ranking

3. Michigan St.
Huge loss to Iowa, but best that Big 10 has to offer.

4. Oregon
Even after win against USC, I am not sold completely. Let's see 'em vs. Arizona

5. Boise St.
After watching other teams with better matchups, I think Boise should only be at #5.

6. Utah
It all comes down to vs. TCU this Saturday.

Win vs West Virginia was big.
