Let's Fix The Dallas Cowboys
So who is the core of this team? Here are the 15 best players in order on this team.
1. Demarcus Ware
The heart and soul of the defense.
2. Sean Lee
Up and coming player who will be a star in this league.
3. Jason Witten
Remains one of the 3-5 best tight ends in the league.
4. Demarco Murray
May be a little early but signs all point to Murray hanging around awhile.
5. Tony Romo
I know many aren't sold, but, man, you can do so much worse at QB.
6. Miles Austin
Still the best receiver on this team when healthy.
7. Laurent Robinson
One year, but a very good year, needs to be resigned to at least another 3 years.
8. Dez Bryant
Off-field issues will go away as he matures; dude is a beast on-field.
9. Tyron Smith
As a rookie, best OL Cowboys have; should be here for at least a decade.
10. Anthony Spncer
Probably most controversial pick on this list; 2nd in sacks, 4th in tackles
11. Jay Ratliff
Can get lost sometime in the mix, but when good, can be very good.
12. John Phillips
Good backup to Witten; shows flashes of brilliance when he gets on the field
13. Victor Butler
Has shown that he has potential to be game-changer.
14. Stephen McGee
As a backup, i have nothing to complain about, but will never start in the NFL.
15. Matt McBriar
Let's just lock him up, if foot heals, and not worry about punter for next few years.
These 15 are part of the solution. After that we now need to decide who is part of the problem on this team. Here are the 15 worst players which need to be moved at some point, via either trade or by being released.
1. Terence Newman
It's been said all week since Giants game. His career is done in Dallas.
2. Alan Ball
His bad play simply outweighs any good that he has shown.
3. Keith Brooking
Age has caught up to him. Great career, but we can do better here.
4. Bradie James
Has never been great in pass coverage; kinda surprised he's lasted this long.
5. Marcus Spears
Former 1st round pick, never lived up to expectations.
6. Martellus Bennett
Always seemed nonchalant about playing football; simply refuses to put work in.
7. Abram Elam
Some believe he was best of 4 starting DBs; maybe, but not good enough.
8. Mike Jenkins
Inconsistency is frustrating; health issues are a concern as well.
9. Gerald Sensabaugh
No way should he have been extended.
10. Orlando Scandrick
Do you see starting DB in the league? I don't. Again, should not have been extended.
11. Phil Costa
Why are we still having issues with snapping the ball 10 weeks into the season?
12. Kyle Kosier
Never been blown away by his play; simply average, we need more.
13. David Buehler
This roster spot can be used for something more than a kickoff-only kicker.
14. Frank Walker
Simply a victim of being member of the weakest position on this team
15. Kenyon Coleman
Just like Spears, only one sack in 2011. We need more from the DE position.
Here are the grades for 2011 for each position on this team
QB - A
You can hate Romo if you want but the numbers simply don't lie. He remains a top-ten second-tier QB in the NFL. And even with McGee, has shown to be a legit backup.
RB - C
For some reason, the running game was pretty good with Murray, but seems to falter with Jones a the featured back. Is this a line problem or a Jones problem? 2012 may give us the answer we need to this question.
WR - B
Austin took a slight step back, primarily due to injury. Bryant is a future start but must learn to play for four quarters. Ro+binson is the steal here. Resign him for 2012 and we may have the best 3-receiver set in the game.
TE - B
Bennett stopped this from being an A. His lackadaisical style of play towrad the game is not what we need from a second-string TE.
OL - C
This group has received a lot of criticism since the season-ending Giants game. I believe only half is warranted. When Murray was the back, they looked pretty good. With Felix, not so much. But taking into account Romo's numbers, a bad OL would not allow for such a great performance out of their QB. Certainly there is room for improvement out of Free, Costa and Kosier.
DL - D
I simply don't buy this idea that 3-4 DL's are given a pass on being productive simply because the OLB are supposed to make all of the plays. Other 3-4 defensive teams seem to get major production out of there. If no production is expected from Cowboy DL, there is no wonder why this team can't seem to get pressure on QB's and, in turn, can't cover receivers.
LB - B
The best position defensively. Ware continues his march to Canton. Spencer is solid, but not great. Too many I think make mistake comparing Spencer to Ware and he is not as good - just solid. Lee has become the #1 tackler on this team. Legit LB in both the pass and the run. Also tied for lead in interceptions.
DB - D
only giving a D because some of the ineptness in pass defense has gotta go to the pass rush as well. Could have easily been an F. Be it DB or DL, either needs to be addressed in the first round of the draft. I would also like to see 2 new faces starting in the defensive backfield in 2012.
So what should the Cowboys draft (by priority)?
1. CB
2. DE
3. OL
4. S
5. ILB
6. CB
7. S

Brees seems to be becoming the odds-on favorite for Super Bowl winners.

Great season, but just not good enough to pull off the ultimate prize.
4. New England Patriots (143)
Beating Baltimore in January might just be asking too much.
5. Houston Texans (104)
I expect early exit, even though this is the greatest year in fronchise history.
6. Baltimore Ravens (104)
Should represent AFC in Super Bowl.
7. Pittsburgh Steelers (94)
Team goes as far as Roethlisberger can limp them.
8. Detroit Lions (91)

A lot in the know expect this to be one of the best Bond films in a while.
5. Red Dawn
I remember the original one vividly. There is room for improvement.
6. Man on a Ledge
Trailer looks interesting, outside, don't know a lot about this one.
7. G.I. Joe: Retaliation
Totally numb to the first one, this can't be as average as that one.
8. The Amazing Spider-Man
Why are we rebooting this? I guess I have to highly anticipate it anyway.
9. The Devil Inside
Looks scary.
10. Men in Black III
Quick...name the last Will Smith movie. It's been 4 years since Seven Pounds.
NFL Top 10 - Week 15
OK, we can finally stop the 16-0 talk.
2. New Orleans Saints (151)
A Saints-Packers championship game would probably break all kinds of NFL records.
3. New England Patriots (140)
Can we all thank the Patriots for killing off this Tebow nonsense?
4. San Francisco 49ers (138)
Win over Steelers makes a serious statement.
5. Houston Texans (107)
With Yates and without Johnson, how far can they go really?
6. Baltimore Ravens (98)
The consistency is starting to become a concern.
7. Pittsburgh Steelers (67)
I maintain that they are simply not that good this year.
8. Detroit Lions (63)
Dream season will probably come to a thud early in the playoffs.
9. Atlanta Falcons (60)
The beneficiaries of the Bears falling off the face of the earth.
10. Dallas Cowboys (52)
Along with the Ravens, one of the most inconsistent teams in the NFL.

9. New York Jets (57)
In wild-card contention. Just about where they should be.

Heartbreaking loss to Tebow and Co. But should grab a wild card spot.

2. Houston Texans (114)
Two tough ones coming up: ATL and CIN.

One of three elite offenses in the league with GB and NE.
4. New England Patriots (108)
Don't know how far they can go with this defense.

Pretty easy schedule coming up down the stretch.
6. Baltimore Ravens (90)
3rd best rush defense, 5th best pass defense.
7. Detroit Lions (70)
They're slippin'
8. Chicago Bears (56)
Next three quite winnable.

2. Oklahoma (5,10,11)
Big 12 Championship still hangs in balance with Okla. St. game.
3. Arkansas (10,14,15)
Hogs are good - but not that good.

OU next up and not expecting Cowboys to deliver.
6. Alabama (12,14,23)
I hate to say it, but they will see LSU again in championship.

Heisman race will be pretty interesting with Luck losing to Oregon.
8. Michigan St. (4,11)
Wisconsin vs. Spartans: Maybe the best championship game on the horizon.

Anyone believe that RGIII is not one of the 3 best players in college football?
10. Iowa State (2,19)
OSU win is one for the ages.
11. Oregon (3,18)
Should roll over Bruins.
12. Nebraska (9,12)
Huskers have made the state of Nebraska proud with first year in Big-10.

Along with Clemson, greatest meltdown this season.
14. Wisconsin (8,20)
Right behind Clemson and Auburn in meltdownage.
15. Ohio St. (12,16)
Almost pulled off another miracle vs. Michigan; should make lotta noise next year.
16. Virginia (12,23)
Too high for Cavs, I agree. They are in over their heads.
17. Missouri (16,21)
Ends year with 3-game win streak.

Hurricanes have no business being a .500 team.

Best defense in the NFL by total yards.

Running game is a bit of a mess; might need to shore it up by the playoffs.
6. Detroit Lions (82)
Can't determine if they are still among the NFL elite or not.

Ravens losing ground, but still best in the NFL's best division this year.

Ranked 3rd in NFL in interceptions.

College Football Top 25 - Week 12
Seems as if no one wants to play Tigers in the Championship game.
2. Oklahoma (5,10,11)
Here only because no one wanted the #2 spot.
3. Arkansas (10,14,15)
Still remains quite underrated on national landscape. LSU next.
4. Clemson (11,11,21)
Quite disappointing in the home stretch of the season. Expected more.
5. Oklahoma St. (8,17,22)
If it wasn't ISU, it would've probably been OU.
6. Alabama (12,14,23)
Not gonna hand them the win against Auburn. They will have to earn it.
7. Michigan St. (4,11)
Best, I repeat, best of a bad Big 10.
8. Baylor (5,14)
No one expected them to beat Sooners. Robert Griffin III putting in his Heisman bid.
9. Oregon (3,18)
C'mon. You just beat Stanford, people start to believe and then lose to USC?
10. Nebraska (9,12)
Inconsistency doomed them to second best in Big 10. Martinez not the answer.
11. Iowa State (2,19)
Wow. They probably win Game of the Year. Yet no one giving love.
12. Auburn (10,16)
Should've been better this year. Win over tide would give season a passable grade.
13. Ohio St. (12,16)
I never bought in, but Wisconsin win spoke volumes.
14. Virginia (12,23)
Stayed under the radar all year, can still win the ACC.
15. Missouri (16,21)
I agree, shouldn't be this high, but can't overlook quality wins.
16. Miami (17,20)
Jacoby Harris may have something.
17. Stanford (20,22)
Most overrated team on this list. Good team, but national championship?
18. Arizona St. (21,23)
Liked them early, but Oregon loss derailed them.
19. Texas Tech (3)
They still beat OU. Who else can say that other than Baylor?
20. USC (4)
Trojans putting it together late in season. A Stanford win would've been nice.
21. TCU (5)
Win over Boise gave NCAA a sigh of relief.
22. Georgia Tech (6)
ACC may have surpassed Big 10 in quality this year.
23. Wisconsin (8)
Most disappointing team this season with last-second losses to MSU and OSU.
24. Northwestern (9)
How they beat Huskers I'll never know.
25. Syracuse (11)

Should have a better running game; I expect Ingram and Sproles to be huge.
9. Minnesota Vikings
Mcnabb will keep this team afloat after the successful Favre experiment.
10. Atlanta Falcons
Got lost in the shuffle last year; expect the same this year.

1. LSU (3)

2. Baylor (14)
No one saw this coming. Although they won't finish this high, Bears are seriously making strides. Griffin for Heisman?
3. S. Florida (16)

davidewilson.com's College Football Preseason Top 10
Everything falls on QB Jordan Jefferson's shoulders.
2. Oklahoma
Landry Jones should be solid enough to keep Sooners in the national championship hunt
3. Arkansas
As of today, I like the Hogs this high. Not sure how good they will be by mid-SEC play.
4. Auburn
Lost a lot in the draft, but there is enough talent here to keep things interesting.
5. Alabama
It's 'Bama, for God's sakes. Expect greatness. They always do.
6. Texas A&M
Big expectations for the Aggies this year. Anything less than 2nd in the Big 12 is a failure.
7. Oklahoma State
If the Cowboys can hold it together until Bedlam, we just might have one for the ages.
8. Florida
I really don't think the Gators are this good in the long=term, but time will tell.
9. Texas
Maybe I'm crazy, but I expect the Horns to bounce back from last year.
10. Texas Tech
Remember, this is just preseason.

Review: X-Men:First Class (2011)

When we heard that the fourth X-Men installment was being released, I'm sure there was a wide range of expectations that immediately took shape. Some probably felt that "X-Men: The Last Stand" should have completed the story and summed all we needed to know about these mutants (not to mention the solo Wolverine film) and this will be a weak attempt and last ditch effort to cash in on the brand. Others probably saw this as further development of the franchise's core characters packaged as a prequel after really enjoying the earlier movies. I happened to have been in the former camp. After this experience, I could not have been more wrong. Not only do I consider First Class the best of the franchise, it's so far is the best film I've seen this year. Set in the 1960s, it gives us a well-crafted back story on how the X-men became who they are. I found the third act as, quite possibly, the best climax in superhero film history. First Class is first-class filmmaking, to say the least. Rating: ****

Review: Mint Condition's 7

As the last true band standing in R&B, we have become accustomed to Mint Condition bringing us the funk. Not really Parliament/Funkdadelic funk, but funk, nonetheless. I must admit that although I consider myself a Mint Condition fan as much as the next guy, I never have extremely high expectations for each release from the group. Just as on their latest effort,7, there will be a solid ballad or two, some good mid- to uptempo funk numbers to bob your head to and one heavy rock,guitar-laden ditty near the end. Everything else kinda falls somewhere in between. The problem has been with Mint Condition is that they are very good at what they do -but not great. Outside of maybe 1996's Definition Of A Band, there really hasn't been a bona fide, breakout smash album from the group. But, I guess, simply being very good is a nice problem to have. Steve Jobs was top choice for Google CEO
Steven Levy's new book, In The Plex: How Google Thinks, Works, and Shapes Our Lives, has some interesting insights regarding the relationship between Steve Jobs and Google throughout the years. Perhaps most interesting is the fact that when Sergey Brin and Larry Page were looking around for a new CEO their first choice was Jobs.
Jobs turned them down, but saw enough in Google to see that it could be a success; he offered to mentor the two founders, going so far as to provide them with access to his closest advisers. After Jobs declined the Google CEO position, Brin and Page chose Eric Schmidt as CEO and Schmidt also later joined Apple's board of directors. That's when things quickly took a turn for the worse.
As Levy states in the book, Jobs was 'furious' when he visited Google's Mountain View headquarters and saw that the Android OS sported iOS features like pinch to zoom, among others. Shortly after that visit, Jobs told an Apple town hall meeting what he really thought of Google: 'We did not enter the search business. They entered the phone business. Make no mistake: they want to kill the iPhone. We won't let them [...] This don't be evil mantra? It's bullshit.'
The book also states that after Jobs found out about Android's similarities to iOS, he felt betrayed enough to somehow keep the development of the iPad hidden from Eric Schmidt while he was still a board member of Apple.

Review: The Green Hornet (2011)

Let's be honest. Green Hornet is, at best, a 2nd or 3rd tier superhero - if you wanna call him that. So enthusiasm walking through the theater doors to the big-screen treatment of The Green Hornet should be curbed a bit. The film is a simple story of a rich, young party animal whose father dies and leaves him the family business. Finding himself with more responsibility, our hero decides to clean up his act and fly the straight and narrow. Oh yeah, and while he's at it, he'll also fight a little crime with his sidekick driver, Kato. Many would think that Seth Rogan's act would be played out after multiple roles of playing the funny and lovable loser. But after this feature, I say there is still a place in this movie world for guys like him and Will Ferrell. I laughed a few times more than I thought I would in this one. All in all, Hornet receives a passing grade given expectations. Rating *** 1/2 stars.

10 Most Underrated College Basketball Teams

1. Connecticut
How UConn is not the #1 team in the country is an absolute mystery; no team is more battle-tested.
2. Tennessee
I know the SEC is not a basketball powerhouse, but can I get someone from the AP to look at who the Vols have beaten?

Not sure the Wildcats are getting the love they deserve, even after 3 quality wins so far.
4. Michigan St.
Spartans have been a Jekyll and Hyde team this year, but worthy of a higher ranking.
5. Colorado
The team that no one is talking about; would love to see how they fare against Kansas on Jan 25th.
6. Kansas St.
Big games coming up against Texas A&M and Kansas; keep an eye on K-State.
7. Louisville
Not sure they can win a championship in a deep, very deep, Big east Conference, but they have a nice resume.

Five of their next seven are against Top 25 teams; already have 2 wins against Georgetown and Notre Dame
9. West Virginia

BYU has no business in anybody's top 10; obviously, the AP doesn't agree.
5. Purdue
Boilermakers' next 4 games are against top 25 teams- the first of the year.
6. Washington
Pac-10 should have no representatives in the top 25 at this point;Huskies are the best but no quality wins
7. St. Mary's
Here is a team which many seem to want to root for, like Gonzaga or Princeton; they've beaten no one.
8. Cincinnati
Bearcats have at least played quality competition, but no wins.

A team I never believed in from the beginning -they are proving me wrong.

One of the biggest disappointments of the season. Sanchez is simply not ready.

12. Baltimore
Even at #12, I wouldn't be surprised to see this team go deep in the playoffs.

No more denying. Only one more to go.
2. Oklahoma
Sooners came from seemingly nowhere to become the second best team in the nation.
3. Oregon
Not sure why Ducks are #2 in most polls with given schedule easier than Sooners.
4. Virginia Tech
Beamer and Co. jump to 4 after winning 11 straight. Much love to Hokies this year.
5. Wisconsin
Big 10 had a pretty good run, but just not good enough for nat'l championship.
6. TCU
Big East, here they come!!
7. Nevada
Came from outta nowhere.
8. Miami, OH
Beat a top 25 team, you get on this list. See how easy it is?

5. Wisconsin
12. Alabama
6. TCU
11. FIU
7. Nevada
10. UCF
8. Miami, OH

1. Auburn
12. Alabama
4. Virginia Tech
6. TCU
3. Oregon
7. Nevada
2. Oklahoma
9. UConn
Third round?
1. Auburn
6. TCU
3. Oregon
2. Oklahoma
National Championship
1. Auburn
3. Oregon
Winner:
AUBURN
Point as made last year. Even with a playoff system, more than likely you will end up with two best teams as you have with today's BCS system. Of course, a playoffs would be nice to see, but not sure it will get you different results. The cream usually rises to the top.

College Football's Week 13 Top 12 Poll
Tigers showed all the guts you can ask from a college football team vs. Alabama in their comeback from 21 to win.
2. Oklahoma
Sooners back on the map after huge win against OSU Cowboys.
3. Oregon
Arizona win validates the ducks in my mind.
4. Wisconsin
Nobody paying a lot of attention to the Badgers.Don't be shocked if they sneak in the title game.
5. TCU
A matter of simply not playing strong enough competition.
6. Boise State
Broncos didn't take care of business versus Nevada. College presidents and NCAA can sleep easy now.
7. Virginia Tech
What a way to save a season after early-season turmoil.
8. Northern Illinois
Should we start expecting more from the Huskies? Wisconsin in 2011 and Iowa in 2012.
9. West Virginia
Big East needs to step up. Disappointing 2011 season for the entire conference.
10. UCF
Ends the year against Southern Methodist in championship.
11. FIU
Sun Belt sucks...LOL
12. Alabama
Hard to believe that this team is second best in the SEC. Can easily beat at least 8 of the others on this list.

Hokies should be given full credit for bouncing back from early losses.

10. West Virginia
Big East has fallen behind the MAC?
11. FIU
Sun Belt still brings up rear.

I still believe they are better than what we have seen in past 3 weeks.
9. New England
They will remain in a dogfight with Jets over AFC East supremacy.

Top 10 Coaches The Cowboys should hire next

Everyone's favorite pick for next Cowboys head coach. Has the best combination of demeanor, personality and resume of all on this list. The negative? He was in Pittsburgh for 14 years before winning a Super Bowl. Would Jerry Jones and fans be that patient?
2. Brian Billick

Has a super Bowl under his belt and a winning record to boot. Depending on what he expects from working under Jones, I think this team would flourish under his care.
3. Jon Gruden

Gruden has won one Super Bowl, but many would say that it was a team that Tony Dungy put together. I've never bought that argument (Switzer wins with Jimmy Johnson's "team"). Each year is different. There is very little carryover from one team to the next, even if personnel is nearly the same. Gruden has the best personality to coach a team like this. He is hard-nosed and has that "take-no-stuff" demeanor that these 53 need.
4. Marty Schottenheimer

Although he has been out the game for a while, his resume deserves respect from players. He has a great track record of turning losing franchises around which this team definitely needs.
5. Bob Stoops

People love this guy for winning one college championship at his present position as head coach for the Oklahoma Sooners. So do I, but there are question marks with him winning big games. But by and large, this guy is a winner and players love to go to war for him. A solid, even tempered coach, he has the perfect balance of disciplinarian and player's coach.
6. Mike Zimmer

Zimmer coached the Cowboys' defense for 7 years and made a name for himself. Now as defensive coordinator for the Bengals, his name is popping up again for possible head coaching vacancies. Dallas would be a perfect fit for him.
7. Butch Davis

Presently coaching at North Carolina, Butch Davis has a history with the Cowboys as def coord under Jimmy Johnson. So at least he knows what working with Jerry jones would be like. As a Head Coach, his record is not his strength - 20 wins and 20 losses.
8. Jason Garrett

Verdict is still out on Garrett as a head coach. As an offensive coordinator, he has done a fair job. But of course, head coach should have a different set of skills. And the real question is will the players respect and respond to him given he would a carryover from the Wade Phillips era.
9. Jerry Jones

No, I am not joking. By and large, the NFL head coach does not have to be an X's and O's guy. He needs to be a manager of men and the coach's coach. Jerry would be a great motivator, but as a disciplinarian, he might be suspect.
10. Mike Singletary

Of course, he has to get fired first from the 49ers, but he has the perfect temperament that this team needs to succeed. Let us not worry too much about his present record with the 49ers. They have the exact opposite problem that the Cowboys have - weak talent but extremely disciplined.
